Yesterday my daughter and I went out for a run together. She is 6 and has been asking if she can run with me for a while so I said that of course she could, but that I wanted to get her some trainers first.
We went shopping and I have to say, like mother like daughter, we went out for trainers and she ended up with 3 new pairs of shoes in total – how did that happen? Her trainers are adorable though, if they did them in adults sizes I would definitely get a pair just like them!
Aren’t they cute? She has never run in proper trainers before, just plimsolls and when we went out she was delighted with how springy they are. We did a one minute walk, one minute run and during the runs she was flying and saying ‘I can’t slow down, the trainers are too fast’ – hilarious. I definitely want a pair!
I was planning on doing about a mile with her and we ended up having done around 1.8 by the time we got back to the house. The conversation then went like this:
Me: We’ve done 1.8 miles, are you happy with that or would you like to run up and down that road until we have rounded it up to 2?
Her: I need 2. I want to impress Daddy.
Bless her! So that is what we did, we did that mad thing that people with Garmins do, run up and down the road adding on .2 of a mile.
When we got home Daddy was suitably impressed! We then did our stretches and she even joined me in a plank managing 45 seconds to my minute. I am also happy to report that I am now on day 202 of my Plankstreak and still on track with my running target.
Today I am feeling slightly under the weather so rather than my usual 10k on a Sunday I did a 4 mile walk. Which was very lovely indeed – I do love to walk, you notice a lot more walking and I got to have a nice chat with a lady walking her dogs until we went in different directions.
Then when I came home, my daughter and I made cupcakes as Thank You Teacher presents.
Altogether a lovely weekend so far.
